Thanks for the cattle!

This site is inspired by the New York Times article (see "Press" link for other sources) about the Masai village in southern Kenya who donated 14 head of cattle to the US in sorrow over the 9/11 attacks. This is a place where you can say "thanks" to the villagers who made the donation.

I don't have any elite connections in Kenya, but I did spend half a year there studying, and so I know about the "harambee" spirit and I'm reasonably sure I can get a note to some folks out in the 'mara sooner or later. I'm willing to pay the postage sending this if it ends up being a few (or a few dozen) pages, so let's give it a try and see where it goes.

"I know that for the Maasai people the cow is valued above all possessions and that the gift of a cow is the highest expression of regard and sympathy."

- U.S. ambassador William Brencick, commenting on the gift.
